A teleprompter in your browser

Read every word. Never look down.

Teleprompter scrolls your script at your pace, or only while you’re talking. Paste it in, press play, and keep your eyes on the lens.

A working miniature of the prompter. Press play, change the speed, mirror it, or switch on scroll while I speak.

Scroll while I speak

It waits when you do.

Switch on scroll while I speak and the text moves only while you’re talking. Stop for a breath, a question or a sip of water, and it eases to a stop. Start again and it carries on.

  • Set your pace once It hears that you’re speaking, not which words, so the speed stays yours and the stops take care of themselves.
  • Never left hanging It runs on through cues, pauses and the gaps between paragraphs, so you’re not waiting on text with nothing to say.
  • It records nothing It listens only for how loud the room is, and nothing leaves your computer. Turn the sensitivity up or down to suit the room.
Where you are in the script A breath doesn’t stop it. A second of quiet does, gently.

Cues and directions

Write the show into the script.

Plain text does it. Mark the sections, the pauses and the slide changes as you write, and the prompter shows them as you read.

A line that starts with # is a cue. It shows small and in capitals, so you know where you are, but you don’t read it out. Press N and P to jump from one cue to the next.

Good morning, and thank you for being here.

Settings

Fits your rig, your eyes and your pace.

Mirror and flip

Reading through prompter glass? Mirror reverses the text. Screen hung upside down? Flip turns it over. Press M to mirror at any moment.

Speed in words a minute

Your pace holds when you make the text bigger. Before you start, you see how many words there are and how long they’ll take.

A reading line you can move

Put it where your eyes rest, one line tall or two. What you’ve read fades above it, so you always know where you are.

Five fonts to read in

Pick the one you read fastest, then set the text width and line spacing to suit your eyes and your screen.

Your colours

Choose the text, background and reading line colours, or start from six ready-made ones. Light or dark for everything else.

Record yourself

Switch on Record my voice, and each run-through becomes an MP3, made in your browser and never uploaded. Listen back, then save the takes you want to keep.

Open the script you’ve got

Paste it in, or open a text, Markdown or Word file. Headings become cues, and bold, italics and lists come with them.

A count-in

Three seconds to settle before the first line. Switch it off in Settings if you’d rather start straight away.

Works offline

Open it once and it works without a connection, so bad Wi-Fi at the venue can’t stop the show. Add it to your Dock or home screen to open it like an app.

It remembers

Your script and every setting are kept in your browser, ready for next time. A copy you add from Safari keeps its own.

Keyboard and clicker

Hands on the clicker. Eyes on the lens.

Every control has a key. Once the text is moving, the controls fade away and leave you with the words.

A clicker works too

The same presentation clicker you use for slides. Forward plays or pauses. Back takes you back three lines.

On a Mac

Keep the script right under the camera.

Fanlight is a small Mac app that floats one web page in a clean window of its own, with no tabs or toolbars, above everything else on your screen. It began as a way to keep Teleprompter in view, and it works with any page.

  • Above the slides and the call Park the script just under the camera, above every app. Play your slides in a window and the script stays on top. Share just the slides, and nobody on the call sees it.
  • Scroll while I speak works too Fanlight asks once for the microphone and remembers your answer. The camera always stays off.
  • A place of its own Fanlight keeps its own storage, apart from your browser’s. Open your script in it once, and it’s there next time.

Private by design

Nothing to set up

It runs in the browser on your laptop, your tablet or the screen in your rig. Open the page, paste your script, press play.

Your script stays with you

Scripts and settings are kept in your own browser. A Word file is read on your computer, not uploaded anywhere.

Your voice stays with you

Scroll while I speak hears how loud the room is, never what you say. Record yourself, and the MP3 is made and saved on your computer, never uploaded. The microphone is only on while you’re prompting.

Ready when you are.

Open Teleprompter, paste your script and press play.
